The local countryside is a gently undulating agricultural plain with river valleys and forests. There are a few steep hills.
This is ideal cycle touring country, as the distances between the picturesque villages are typically only about 5 km.
The roads are generally quiet and well-surfaced, and there is a fine gravel towpath along the banks of the river which can be followed for many miles.
